Stunning Banyan Tree Koh Samui Wedding by Erica Camille
I almost fell off my chair when I first saw this wedding. As if the location wasn’t spectacular enough – a lush tropical island off the coast of Thailand, thank you very much – just wait until you see the details. We start with a elegant resort overlooking the Gulf of Thailand, add one of New York’s finest photographers and the highlights just keep coming from there. Thailand’s beautiful Banyan Tree Koh Samui set the scene for Belinda and Cameron’s wedding day, with a special guest appearance by one of the most unique and stunning gowns that I’ve ever seen. And then there’s THE SHOES. Oh, do NOT get me started on those shoes. There are just so, so many beautiful – and thoughtful – details here, like the polaroids of absent friends draped at the altar, a private gazebo reception on the beach, dancing barefoot in the sand as a storm rolled in . . . I loved everything about this wedding from the moment I first saw it. I think you’re going to be smitten too . . .
From the Bride: As all my family is in South Africa & my husband’s are all in Australia, we knew either one family or another would be disappointed if we chose either country for our wedding so we decided to have something very small & intimate at the spectacular Banyan Tree resort in Koh Samui, Thailand. I have always wanted to design my own dress & wear something completely unique on my wedding day & after I found a gorgeous oversize floral embroidered tulle, the whole concept fell into place. The incredibly talented Lenka Harvey (seamstress for One Day Bridal) completely understood my vision & brought my design to life. Liz Kuehne from Singular, designed & hand made my ear cuff which completed my accessories & added the perfect amount of edge. I wanted my dress to be feminine & romantic, yet comfortable & able to deal with the tropical April heat without looking like a traditional beach wedding dress. I wanted subtle layers of colour an element of glamour to suit my Charlotte Olympia Mae West heels. For our ceremony location, we chose the breath taking infinity pool with its backdrop of palm trees & private beach which was perfect for our small group. We were married surrounded by an azure sky, white orchids & garlands of black & white polaroids of family & friends who couldn’t make it. As we wanted to be able to share all the details of the day with everyone who couldn’t come, finding the perfect photographer was very high on my priority list. After scouring the web & countless wedding forums, I stumbled across a New York based photographer, Erica Camille, who luckily for me, specialises in Asia destination weddings. The minute I saw her website, I knew I couldn’t settle for another photographer. We ended a perfect day with a sumptuous Thai banquet in our private beach gazebo, danced in the full moonlight, lit Thai wishing lanterns & watched a distant storm roll across the ocean.
