Gorgeous Costa Rican Destination Wedding by Our Costa Rica Wedding & Renascent Photography
Most of us choose our wedding destination for a reason, be it it a personal or family connection, or perhaps just a love of the location and culture. Enter today’s couple, two adventurous spirits who decided that the unspoilt playground of Costa Rica was their perfect fit. Nell and Brian decided to spend an entire month ahead of the wedding on location, sampling just about every adrenaline fuelled activity that Costa Rica has to offer! There was a spot of hot air ballooning at sunrise, a soak in some hot springs, a visit to beautiful Arenal Volcano, ziplining through the forrest, diving, kyaking in mangroves, spending the night in a cave behind a waterfall, rapelling off huge cliffs and more! Phew!!
This pair also had a very clear vision for their wedding day, and made the wise decision to entrust it to the lovely Meghan and team at Our Costa Rica Wedding. If you’ve ever wondered whether or not you should hire a wedding planner – particularly for a destination wedding – the answer is a huge YES! Just take a look at the ‘behind the scenes’ video at the end of this post for a sample of what goes into pulling off a wedding as beautifully and as flawlessly as this one. I can’t wait for you to see these photos, but first, I’m going to hand it over to Meghan to set the scene . . .
From the Wedding Planner: Nell was a planner’s dream. She knew what she wanted and stuck to her same aesthetic throughout planning, which is rare in the days since Pinterest has blown up! It was important to Nell to incorporate her mother’s memory in her wedding so we did this in several ways. The first was a private yoga session to begin the day peacefully and get some of those tears out of the way. We also used dried lavender, her mother’s favorite scent, in the cones for guests to throw after the ceremony. Lastly, she wore her mother’s locket wrapped around her bouquet. (Side note: This was the only mishap of the day, with the locket forgotten in the hotel room. Meghan’s assistant Sol quickly jumped on her motorcycle and just before she pulled off, the bride’s sister – in full hair, makeup and bridesmaids dress – hopped on the back of the bike and they roared off to the nearby hotel, returning in 10 minutes to save the day! A classic example of a mishap becoming an amazing memory.) Families on both sides were honoured by including them in photos strung behind the water bar and then later relocated to the bar for the reception. The guestbook featured Polaroid photos snapped during cocktail hour and placed into the book with personal messages. Brian’s father officiated the ceremony, which was very personal and sweet, before a candlelit dinner took place on the beach, under the trees, with chandeliers overhead. Nell wanted a very full dessert bar and she certainly got it with a variety of gorgeous desserts from Victoria Zoch. The wedding favours were coffee beans in burlap bags. Love is Sweet! Finally, the night finished on a high, with everyone jumping into the pool at the end!
