A Destination Wedding at Hotel Budir by Iceland Wedding Planner

I’ve never met anyone more passionate about Iceland and Icelandic weddings than the lovely lady behind today’s real wedding.  Ann Peters – a destination wedding photographer and former Iceland bride herself – has turned her love affair with this totally unique Island nation into not just a career, but a blossoming Icelandic empire!  She’s the ‘Ann’ in ‘Photos by Miss Ann‘ and the ‘Planner’ in ‘Iceland Wedding Planner‘, and she’s also been busy launching a number of other Nordic inspired enterprises in recent times.  And today’s real wedding – planned, photographed, styled and stage managed by the lady herself – is a classic example of the number of different hats that she often wears in the course of a typical wedding day . . .  if there is such a thing as ‘typical’ wedding day in Iceland!

Even though it’s now a mainstream wedding destination that’s well serviced by venues and wedding professionals, Iceland still throws up a few quirks for the uninitiated.  It’s incredibly important to ensure that you work with vendors who are familiar with the unique challenges of the location, and not just its many highlights.  For instance, did you know that you may need weighted chairs to combat the high winds if you plan to marry outdoors??  Nope.  Me neither.  And what happens when gale force winds kick up and spoil your plans for a beach wedding overlooking a particular mountain range??  Lucky for our couple, Tiffany and Brian, their Iceland expert had it all sorted.

From the Wedding Planner: Brian and Tiffany planned their Iceland destination wedding for 21 months and really wanted to ensure it was an adventure for all involved. Themselves and their 43 guests mostly came from Regina, Saskatchewan Canada and and all were ready to go on a destination wedding adventure! For them, the wedding weekend was almost as important as the wedding day. The couple had rented the entire hotel for the weekend for their guests. The weekend was kicked off with a “wedding welcome dinner” on Friday night which included a traditional 3 course Icelandic meal followed by a bonfire on the beach that ran into the wee hours of the morning.  The morning of the wedding brought strong gale winds. We had originally planned to marry them down by the beach but the wind was knocking down the weighted chairs! We went to “plan b” (Which you always must have in Iceland as the weather is always changing!) which was still outside and facing the same mountains and waterfall, but shielded on one side by the hotel.  At 12pm a bus arrived to begin the groups wedding day adventure! The first stop was Kirkjufellsfoss Waterfall & Kirkjufell Mountain which is just a stunning area that looks like nowhere else in the world. The second stop was a quick stop at one of Iceland’s only “Golden” Beaches, called Skardsvik. The third stop was to admire the powerful Snaefellsjokull Volcano/Glacier. Fourth was to see the seaside rock formations of Hellnar.  By the end of the tour the guests were ready to relax and catch their second wind! The photographer stole the couple for a few more minutes to take them around for the “golden hour” on the spectacular grounds of Hotel Budir. Everyone had about an hour to rest and recharge before the beautifully detailed reception began. Gorgeous details stood out from the handmade centerpieces, menus, to the peach napkins and candles. The group enjoyed a 5 course Iceland wedding meal and the last moment of the night was shared by the couple in a sweet first dance.
