Destination Wedding in Ravello, Italy by Oli Sansom
Today’s real bride sure has a way with words. Kirsty and her groom, Fergus flew from their home town of Melbourne, Australia all the way to Italy’s spectacular Amalfi Coast for their destination wedding in Ravello. Kirsty’s description of walking through the cobbled streets of Ravello on her way to marry Fergus, well, I won’t spoil it for you but let’s just say that it’s pretty awesome. For me, this is exactly why you choose to get married overseas. It’s those incredible, mind blowing moments that happen when you find yourself in some far flung, spectacular and exotic location. When those moments happen right in the middle of your wedding day, well, it’s difficult to explain just how special that is. Kirsty however, describes it to perfection . . .
From the Bride: The day itself was a dream. Relaxed, easy, us. Ferg, Lizzie and I got ready together at the stunning Villa Cimbrone and walked the 15 minutes down the cobblestone streets to the piazza to meet Mandy, Roger and Lachie. Walking that 15 minutes was the happiest, most beautiful, joyous 15 minutes of my life. It was like a dream. Local Italians and tourists stopped and cheered, “Auguri” they all called, taking photos, watching us walk by like royalty and clapping. I have never smiled so much, felt so beautiful, or felt so much love from strangers and my husband-to-be as I did on that walk. The piazza broke out in applause as we met Ferg’s family and it is a moment I will never forget. Marrying my best friend was the most special, intimate and powerful thing I have ever done. The sun shone brightly as we approached the Ravello Mayor and he married us on the most beautiful cliff top, under a clear blue sky and mountains that seemed to whisper words of love to us also. I cannot imagine a more perfect day or a more perfect wedding. Thank you Ravello.
