Destination Wedding in Tuscany by Elika Hunt
This is such a great story . . . Estonian couple Alari and Tiina had planned a trip to Italy with some friends in the spring time. One day, the bride-to-be stumbled across a blog post about a vineyard wedding in Tuscany and thought “why not!!”. After all, the trip was already planned, and some of the guests were coming, so a mere three months before the wedding day, planning began! Tiina’s best friend was right behind the idea, and helped out with everything from the invitations and decorations, and also helped to find the right gown. And – if this isn’t the absolute definition of ‘best friend ever’ – even learnt hairdressing so that she could do the bride’s hair. What a girl! Another friend volunteered to do Tiina’s makeup, and a third made the bridal bouquet. Before long, a group of around 40 family and friends were confirmed, and they all headed off together to spend 4 amazing days in Tuscany, staying at Mormoraia Farmhouse just outside the beautiful town of San Gimignano. They spent the days leading up to the wedding taking day trips to nearby towns and sipping wine on the terrace, as you do! Tiina tells the story of her wedding day . . .
From the Bride: The ceremony was held in Certaldo Town Hall, situated up the hill and all the guests had to use a funicular to reach the ceremony. It was a rainy wedding day, but in Italy it is said that a rainy wedding day brings good luck, “Sposa bagnata, sposa fortunata” which means “Wet bride, lucky bride”! It was actually quite magical, the rain got heavier and heavier along the ceremony and when it finished the rain also stopped, only for a short while though! The reception was held in Mormoraia Farmhouse with a spectacular view to the town of San Gimignano. The only professionals involved in the wedding were the photographer from Estonia, local band and cooks. We had had previously very good experience with photographer Elika Hunt and fortunately she was able to join us. The band turned out to be perfect for our wedding, we danced all evening and as dancing is not very common in Italian weddings the band quickly adapted their playlist according to us. The food was excellent and the wedding cake was a hit, it is still mentioned how good it tasted!
