Spectacular Destination Wedding Beside Lake Garda by Barney Walters
A quick warning before we get into today’s real wedding . . . this is a rather loooong one folks!! Although, I don’t think you’re going to mind too much when you see it. Fran & Sam married in one of the world’s most breathtaking wedding locations – beside stunning Lake Garda in northern Italy. Destination wedding photographer extraordinaire Barney Walters jetted in from the UK to capture the day, and with so much beauty in each and every frame (thank you Barney, thank you Italy), I wanted to share as much of it as I possibly could. And aside from the gob-smacking scenery, something else I really loved about this wedding was just how much fun everyone seemed to be having – most of all the bride and groom! There’s a bit of a misconception that destination weddings are a lot more stressful than a wedding at home, but Fran talks below about wanting a relaxed wedding day, and I think these pictures speak for themselves. So without further ado, here is Fran and Sam’s wedding, in all of its Italian-Lake-on-a-summer-day glory!! You’re welcome
From the Bride: We originally…well, I originally wanted a big-ish wedding in the UK and had thoughts of a tipi in the middle of a field (obviously on a warm sunny day) surrounded by 100+ family and friends. However, after pricing up ‘my dream wedding’, I soon realised that there wouldn’t be budget for AMAZING food and wine. I didn’t want mediocre. I wanted food, drink and our friends and family (not necessarily in that order!) to be our no. 1 priority. I had been to Lake Garda 5 years or so before I met Sam and thought it was stunning, so one evening I did a quick google and up popped lots of options….even options that included UK wedding planners based over in Italy. It was time to tell Sam…….my tipi dream has just changed dramatically…and now included 50% less guests…and flying to Italy! Surprising he took it well and actually loved a more relaxed feel to our day. We flew out to meet the planners (Annabelle at Lake Garda Weddings) and she was amazing. We decided on a 2pm ceremony on a terrace, at the castle, overlooking the lake- WOW!! The ceremony would be followed up with a champagne toast with nibbles at the lake front, a nice stroll down from the castle. We then decided we would surprise our guests with an hour boat trip across the lake…again with more Prosecco!!! The boat docked at a beautiful restaurant on the lakefront that we had full exclusivity for the day. Guests were greeted with more Prosecco and nibbles and we sat chatting in the sun. It’s amazing how fast time goes. I remember saying to Sam on the boat ‘can you believe it’s 5pm already?’ We had chosen a 6 course meal plus a traditional Italian wedding cake, so it’s fair to say our guests were full, but not too full to dance and continue the party into the early hours down at a bar on the lake front. It was a dream day and looking at my new husband in his gorgeous blue suit with the sun shining and the lake glistening behind him….I couldn’t have been more happy!
