Stunning Telluride Wedding from Captured by Karen Photography
I’ve been waiting such a long time to share our first Colorado wedding on the blog, and I think you’ll agree after seeing this stunner from Captured by Karen Photography, it’s been worth the wait! April and Allyson’s beautiful wedding day took place in Telluride, another of those locations often associated with winter weddings, but one that is equally – if not more – stunning without the snow. The girls found a fantastic old log cabin in the mountains, which set the scene for their intimate wedding celebration; an emotional lake-side ceremony, followed by an outdoor reception and a spot of dancing, surrounded by THAT view. As much as I’m a fan of Telluride’s breathtaking scenery however, my favourite pictures from this wedding aren’t about the landscape at all. Keep an eye out for the moment April first catches sight of Allyson walking down the aisle. I think it’s one of the best ‘first looks’ I’ve ever seen!
From the Photographer: April and Allyson have a beautiful love story. They met many years ago and fell in love in recent years. They went to New York in December of 2012 to have an official marriage because at the time, their home state of Colorado didn’t recognize their marriage. Over the years, they would travel up to Telluride from their hometown of Grand Junction, Colorado to visit and ski. They found this amazing place that sits just above the town at Alta Lakes, called Alta Lakes Observatory. This is a very unique and quaint log cabin home that is fully furnished with a gorgeous kitchen, hot tub, bedrooms, etc. Plus it’s right on the lakes and in the middle of an old mining town. Remnants of the mine still exist next to the cabin – there are mining cabins and other leftover debris that are fabulous for unique photos! April and Allyson’s big day began with April giving Allyson a new truck as a wedding gift. Then they didn’t see each other until the ceremony. The bridal parties each had men and women in them – the maid of honor was Allyson’s best friend who is a guy, and April’s best man was a girl! It was all a very unique situation and it was so abundantly full of love from everyone who attended. I don’t think there was a dry eye in the crowd during the ceremony – including me! As far as vendors go, April and Allyson included their friends in many of the details for their day. Their friend, Nick Wilson did the flower arrangements, Allyson made all of the details for the tables and signs – they also made their own signature drinks. The dresses are from Davis Bridal and the suits are Kenneth Cole. The cake was also made by a friend and the caterer was a friend as well. Lucky girls!
